Hare’s Breath’ is one of my early watercolours, when I was beginning to have the confidence to develop my own style.
When I returned to the North East to live I was delighted to find my opinion of the industrial landscape change as a direct result of visiting RSPB’s flagship centre at Saltholme, Teesside. I now know this landscape provides a good home for many birds, insects and mammals.
My camera couldn’t get a close enough shot of their hares, but my friend Hilary Chambers came to the rescue. I wasn’t brave enough to include that landscape in this, my first hare, substituting that for a pastoral background. I rectified this in my later hare `Winning’.
